The ranking is based on a Chronicle survey of more than 1,000 area golfers and over 300 club pros, superintendents and people who make a living at golf, according to William E. Langley, CCM, Vice President of Club Operations for The Club at Carlton Woods.

Todd Hveem commented on The Club at Carlton Woods being named the best private course in his article, “The Best Golf in Houston and Beyond,” in the Chronicle’s Golf Guide 2010. “The Club at Carlton Woods has only been open since 2001, but it didn’t take long for its quality to shine through.”

The Nicklaus course is located in the gated community of Carlton Woods while the Tom Fazio Championship golf course is situated in the gated enclave of Carlton Woods Creekside. Both par-72 courses have been designated as“Certified Audubon Cooperative Sanctuary”, through the Cooperative Sanctuary Program for golf courses, anAudubon International Program. The Nicklaus and Fazio courses are for play by members of The Club at Carlton Woods. Carlton Woods is one of only two gated communities in the United States to offer a private Nicklaus/Fazio combination.

“This is a prestigious honor for The Club at Carlton Woods to be recognized as the ‘Best Private Course in Houston’ by its golfing peers,” Langley said. “Both the Fazio and Nicklaus courses have continuously been recognized for excellence in Houston, Texas and America by such publications as Golf Digest, Dallas Morning News and Avid Golfer.”

In the past three consecutive years–2007, 2008 and 2009–both the Nicklaus and the Fazio courses at The Club at Carlton Woods have been ranked as one of the “Top 100 Best Residential Courses in America” by Golfweek and one of the “Top 10 Courses in Texas” by the Dallas Morning News. The Club at Carlton Woods was featured in the “Top 100 Most Prestigious Clubs in America” by Golf Connoisseur in 2007. In 2009, the American Junior Golf Association (AJGA) awarded the “Junior-Am of the Year” and “Invitational of the Year” to The Club at Carlton Woods as host club for the 2009 HP Boy’s Championship. The Woodlands Township Issues Bonds

The Woodlands Township Issues BondsThe Board of Directors of The Woodlands Township issued $34.8 million of tax-exempt unlimited tax bonds on March 24 with an average interest cost of 3.82 percent. Chairman of the Board Nelda Luce Blair said, “Our financial plan assumed a five percent interest rate, so this issue is going to yield significant savings to the taxpayers.”

The Woodlands Township’s Financial Advisor Drew Masterson said, “This rate is one of the lowest I’ve ever seen.”

Last week’s bond sale comes after the voters in The Woodlands approved three different bond propositions on November 3, 2009, to fund fire services, park improvements and refinancing of association line of credit. The sale of the bonds included a very favorable bond rating of AA by Standard & Poor’s. The S&P noted The Woodlands Township’s strong economy, good financial management and limited future debt as strong positives for the rating, according to Chairman Blair.

For more detailed information about the bond sale, contact The Woodlands Township at 281-210-3800 or visitwww.thewoodlandstownship-tx.gov.

Prudential Gary Greene, REALTORS® will join real estate professionals across the nation as part of the REALTOR® Nationwide Open House Weekend celebrated April 10 and 11 of this year. The National Association of REALTORS® encourages REALTORS® to participate in this campaign focused on increasing consumer awareness of the benefits of homeownership.  Prudential Gary Greene, Realtors® will showcase their inventory on Sunday, April 11 to draw attention to the many opportunities available in one of the best housing markets in the nation – Houston.  To view current listings and open houses, go to www.GaryGreene.com.

The Nationwide Open House Weekend will enable sellers to showcase their homes for sale and potential homebuyers to shop for a home while interest rates are low, home prices are affordable and before the April 30 deadline for the federal homebuyer tax credit.  The National Association of Realtors® will conduct a nationwide advertising campaign before the event to increase awareness, interest and traffic.

“For many people, now really is a good time to buy a home. Mortgage rates are still at historic lows,” said Toni Nelson, director of strategic initiatives for Prudential Gary Greene, Realtors®. “And first-time buyers have until April 30 to get up to an $8,000 tax credit while long-time homeowners may qualify for as much as $6,500 if they purchase their next primary residence before the deadline. The Open House weekend held in Houston on April 11 will create interest and attention among buyers and sellers.”

According to the Internal Revenue Service, buyers who wish to qualify for the tax credit must sign a contract to purchase a home on or before April 30, 2010, but they have until June 30, 2010 to close on the home. Income limitations apply and the home purchased must be used as a primary residence with a purchase price not to exceed $800,000.  You can find detailed information HERE.

Adds Nelson: “The tax credit will soon be gone.  Economists predict that home prices and interest rates will climb and with Houston’s growth predictions over the next 10 years, home prices are more likely to climb here than anywhere else. Currently, Houston has an ample supply of homes from which to choose. So the timing of this Open House event is very important to help create awareness and also to capitalize on the tax credit while it is still attainable.”  For more information, read “Housing Shortage Ahead?” on www.GaryGreene.com/blog.

“While the tax credit has been a strong incentive for buyers, homeownership is an investment in your future offering tax benefits and long-term value over time,” said Nelson.

There are many personal benefits to homeownership for sure; it’s the American Dream.  Few buyers know the economic impact that buying a home brings to their local community.  Economists have calculated that for every home purchase, no matter how small – an approximate $63,000 economic multiplier effect goes into the local economy.  There are also as many as 24 services used in the process of buying a home, which benefits local business.  The greatest contribution Americans can make to jump starting the economy is to buy a home.

Prudential Gary Greene, Realtors® personally invites you to attend their Realtor® Nationwide Open House Event on April 11.  To view homes for sale or homes that will be held open, please go to www.GaryGreene.com.

Rob Fleming Aquatic Center Garners Design Award

Rob Fleming Aquatic Center Garners Design AwardThe Southwest Region of the National Recreation and Park Association (NRPA) recently honored The Woodlands Township, The Woodlands Development Company (TWDC) and Clark Condon Associates with an award at the Texas Recreation and Park Society Annual Conference.

The Outstanding Park/Facility Design Award recognizes a park or facility project that displays a high degree of professional design quality. The Rob Fleming Aquatic Center, located in the Village of Creekside Park, was an initiative of TWDC and designed by Clark Condon and Associates. It opened to the public in 2008.

“We had high expectations of what the Rob Fleming Aquatic Center should be–from the initial vision and the incredible site, through programming, design, and construction,” said Joel Deretchin, Vice President of Public Affairs for The Woodlands Development Company. “This collaborative effort resulted in an incredible facility and user experience. The kid fun-o-meter is off the charts! This is a great asset not only to the residents of the Village of Creekside Park, but to the entire Woodlands’ community.”

Other companies that helped the Rob Fleming Aquatic Center become an award-winning facility include MCCM Architects, Spaw Glass and Water Technology, Inc. For more information on parks and pools in The Woodlands, visit The Woodlands Township’s website at www.thewoodlandstownship-tx.gov.

Companies with 100 or more employees are surveyed each year to determine job growth trends in the area.
The 2010 job count revealed encouraging news for The Woodlands and South Montgomery County. Employee numbers at the larger companies in January of 2010 are up by 230 jobs from 2009. This year’s tally shows that close to 23,000 people are employed by major, non-retail companies. The company topping the list of creating new jobs in South Montgomery County this past year is St. Luke’s Episcopal Healthcare. The hospital also plans to break ground during the first half of 2010 on a seven-story patient tower on its 20-acre medical campus.
