Nobody can help you! Not even me. Or she. Or him. Or them.

“Nobody can help me. Not even you.”

This jewel includes Bradbury’s coda to Fahrenheit 451.  “Nobody can help me. Not even you.” is his close.

It’s easy to tell ourselves believe that it’s not really our fault.  Other people are responsible for our failures, unhappiness, unsuccesses, injustices, worries, ups and downs. But that’s not the truth.  The reality is that you and I are responsible for the good and bad in our lives business.  We either create, promote or allow 99% of the things that happen to us.  Personal responsibility is all there is.

Which means nobody can help me.  Not even you.

Nobody can help you.  Not even me. Or she.  Or him.  Or them.

Only we can help ourselves.

This reality is powerful.  When we want to create a better result we can make it happen by owning it taking personal responsibility.  Decide to disallow negative and petty things, people and beliefs, create more value, better solutions and services, and promote quality and excellence, not get-by and good-enough.  When we commit and rely on ourselves to take action, our imaginations are our only limitation.

Besides personal responsibility there is another possibility opportunity.  You and I can help others help themselves.  For example I wrote a book called Less Blah Blah More Ah Ha.  In it I share helpful ideas on how social savvy real estate agents become trusted, preferred and referred.   The book (help) is a support tool, not the solution.  Tools, no matter how shiny, aren’t the solution.  We are.

Sharing bright ideas in book form is an example of helping others help themselves.  There are two positive paths, personal responsibility and helping others help themselves.

As for me, I tell myself to keep the faith and be faithful.  Believe in myself.   Be responsible. Be helpful by helping others help themselves.

What about you?

PS.  Thanks for the share Teri.

Love that. After every transaction I do a SWOT analysis and 10 times out of 10, if I didn’t like the way something went, there was some way that I could have changed my response to make it better or more productive. That doesn’t mean it all would have been perfect, but through better communication, or managing expectations, or not getting bogged down in things that didn’t matter, it would have been more productive when things got a bit stuck. IOW, I can’t control what other people do, I can only control my reactions to what other people do.
